Maryville is a charming Art Deco-style property built by acclaimed Cornish artist J W Matthewman in the late 1920’s, whose old art studio still remains in the garden to this day. Bursting with character, this traditional home has been lovingly restored by the owners and has remained in the family for nearly 70 years. Splashes of elegant monochrome, soft pale hues and restored vintage pieces amalgamate to create a bright welcoming abode whilst retaining much of its original artistic charisma.
Maryville sleeps up to 8 guests across four bedrooms, and benefits from one en-suite and two family bathrooms. Welcoming pets, and with a pretty multilevel garden complete with trampoline, children will adore this home-from-home. A great family holiday destination in summer, Maryville is also a cosy winter retreat with underfloor heating and a toasty wood burner.
Tucked in the small village of Treen, overlooking the verdant Penberth Valley, this beautiful family dwelling is situated within moments of one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Cornwall. The area has been a central backdrop in the filming of hit BBC TV series Poldark. Just a 15 minute walk away are the cerulean waters and white sands of Pedn Vounder beach, home to the iconic Logan Rock and neighbour to equally stunning Porthcurno beach, a further 10 minutes along the coast path or mere 5 minutes in the car. The Penwith Peninsula, as this most south-westerly tip of the UK is known, is peppered with seemingly untouched coves, stopped-in-time fishing hamlets and vast swathes of white sand as well as the iconic Minack Theatre and Land’s End.

The open plan kitchen diner is well equipped and perfectly styled to provide an idyllic setting for evenings spent socialising around the dining table and cooking up a delicious home cooked feast in the kitchen. The kitchen benefits from a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer stored neatly away.
The ground floor benefits from a comfortable large master bedroom with en-suite shower room, a stylish bunk room and two spacious contemporary family bathrooms.
The house still retains its charming, original narrow staircase that leads to the first floor landing and two further bedrooms nestled away in the eaves. Bedroom three provides a double bedroom with views over the rear garden and hedgerows where you can often watch rabbits playing at dawn and dusk. Bedroom four is a spacious twin bedroom with views over the valley and also includes a TV and games console for children to enjoy games and DVD’s away from the main lounge.
Note: Please be aware that due to the character and age of the property, the staircase leading to the first floor is quite narrow and steep, and therefore may not be suitable for all guests.
The picturesque wild garden is comprised of three separate lawn areas, lined with sub-tropical plants and giant rhubarb, and boasting views across the surrounding wooded valley.
Cook up a storm on the charcoal BBQ and make the most of warm summer evenings dining outside, as the sun begins to set. The lower lawn hosts a trampoline for children to enjoy and space to run around and play.
Poldark’s popular location set, Penberth Cove, and access to the South West coast path, are just a 1o minute stroll away. Follow the trickling stream through the valley, passing quaint fisherman’s cottages until you meet the sea.
The driveway has ample parking for 2 - 3 cars depending on size.

Things to do in and around
The beautiful Porthcurno beach has golden sand and turquoise waters and is framed by majestic cliffs. It has been voted one of the country’s best beaches and is great for families and swimmers, with good facilities and parking. The stunning Pedn Vounder beach is just a short walk away, accessible by foot along the coast path. Please note, the path down to the sand does get steep in places. Pedn Vounder is famous for its 80 tonne Logan Rock, an enormous granite boulder that can be rocked back & forth. Please note that no dogs are allowed between 1st May and 30th September between 8am - 7pm on Porthcurno beach, but are welcome on Pedn Vounder all year round.
Just 10 minutes’ drive away is beautiful Sennen Cove, which is a great surfing destination and the most westerly beach in Cornwall, also home to the popular Ben at Sennen Restaurant.
The Logan Rock Inn at Treen serves real ale and good quality pub food with a regularly changing specials board. A short drive away at Sennen there are a variety of places to sample: The Old Success Inn serves food daily and The Little Bo Cafe is a great pit stop for lunch, while Ben Tunnicliffe offers unique dining by beachside at Ben at Sennen.
A little further afield are two excellent restaurants in Mousehole, The Old Coastguard Hotel which has sea views or 2 Fore Street which takes in picturesque views of the harbour.
Cornwall has many working fishing ports dotted around its coastline. There are trips available for all ages and abilities from simple child-friendly 2 hour mackerel trips to all day wreck fishing.

Kids won’t get bored easily in this part of Cornwall. If the weather takes a turn, Paradise Park in nearby Hayle is every kid’s dream day out with over 650 birds and animals to see. Geevor Tin Mine is a brilliant rainy day activity, stepping back in time with guided tours below ground. And, of course, not forgetting the countless gold sand beaches for a classic day at the beach.
The Minack is a unique open air theatre perched on the cliffs high above the Atlantic ocean. It has a full programme of drama, musicals and opera every summer, together with music, comedy and story-telling. They’re open all year round for you to come and explore this amazing place and discover the incredible story of Rowena Cade who created the theatre.
Carbis Bay Hotel Spa
The ultimate relaxing holiday must always include some sort of pamper day. Whether it means going to a spa nearby or having therapists to your luxury holiday home, a bit of self-indulgence goes a long way!
Top of the list for spas in West Cornwall would have to be Carbis Bay Hotel and Spa as well as St Ives Hotel and Spa. Both have gorgeous ocean views and highly trained therapists – The Beach House Company can personally recommend them!
Sennen Cove is arguably the one of the best beaches to surf in the area and is Britain’s most westerly beach; great for beginners and experts. Praa Sands is a fast tubular beach break to the east of Mounts Bay. For those wanting a more secluded surf head to long sandy bay of Gwithian with its numerous beach breaks.
If you’re heading to St Ives and don’t fancy shopping then take a dip in at Portmeor beach.

Every guest staying with us has access to our very popular complimentary concierge services so that we can help you with local information or book things for you. The items below are just some of things that we can organise for your stay but please call our concierge team for more help and ideas!
We can offer a whole range of additional housekeeper services to suit your requirements. If you are looking for daily or regular housekeeping during your stay, or perhaps more frequent linen and towel changes, then this can normally be provided by our housekeeping partners.
There will be a local service charge to pay to the housekeeping company although our concierge team can organise this for you. n.b. Some housekeeping companies do not always work on Sundays and have a minimum service time.
Babysitting or childcare can be a very important part of a stay, particularly if you would like to go to a great fine dining restaurant or maybe spend a day doing activities that aren’t so child friendly.
We have access to a number of childcare professionals or local babysitters that live locally to all of our properties. n.b. Due to insurance reasons, we only pass on names and numbers and leave you to make the final decision on who to employ.
If you would like to do any cycling during your stay, we can organise bike hire for you. We can arrange to have a range of bikes and accessories delivered to the house, or if you want to just turn up somewhere and cycle, we can arrange for them to be dropped off and collected from any location in Cornwall.
If you would like to hire surf boards, stand-up paddle boards or kayaks during your stay, we can organise this for you. Surfing is the ultimate holiday sport and kayaking is a great way to explore the beautiful coastline or waterways near your holiday home.
We strongly recommend that you always obtain professional lessons before ever taking to the water, which we can also organise for you.
Whether its a private boat charter to enjoy a relaxing afternoon exploring the coastline, a day out at sea to catch some big fish for your tea, or a high speed ride on a rib searching for wildlife, we can arrange it for you!
Why not try a bread making class in the luxury of your Beach House. A chef tutor will visit the house with all the necessary ingredients and equipment, and teach you how to make delicious fresh bread or work with you on how to master a particular type of bread. The great thing about learning within one of our houses is that not only is there no travelling, its a much more personal experience. n.b. Chef Prepared Dinners is a very flexible bespoke food service. The way that it works is that you discuss what food you would like with one of our partner chefs, they prepare it and then deliver it to you on the agreed day, together with cooking instructions!
All you have to do is turn on the cooker for items that need cooking, follow a few simple instructions and then hey presto, a gourmet banquet is on the table! As well as gourmet food, you can also order simple homemade dishes as well.
Our concierge team can recommend the best restaurants in the area to help you get the most out of your stay and we’ll even take care of all of the reservations for you too.
Let us know where you would like to go and we can take all of the hassle out of organising your group and make those all important bookings on your behalf. If you are bringing the family dog away on holiday with you to one of our dog friendly properties and you want go somewhere for the day/evening that does not permit dogs, we can organise a dog sitter to look after your dog and keep it company while you are out!

The Pop up Restaurant is a really novel catering experience and isn’t just limited to the grounds of the house that you are staying in, you can have a pop up personal restaurant anywhere! Think romantic meal for two on a beach or surprise dinner party in the woods – as long as a vehicle can get close to it, a restaurant can be provided!
You choose the location and menu and our chef will provide the rest. This is a great unique option for a one-off special occasion.
Our most popular concierge service is a private chef. You can enjoy a delicious gourmet experience in the comfort of your own Beach House, creating the perfect evening for a special occasion! We work with a small number of highly experienced chefs that provide food of the highest standard and in addition to preparing and serving, they also clean and wash up afterwards! To save space in the car, allow us to stock the wine fridge up for your arrival. We work with a small number of local wine merchants who will deliver to your Beach House or work with our local services company to get the deliveries to you.

If you decide to fly or get the train to your holiday home destination we can help to organise car hire for your stay to help you explore the local area. We can also book taxis for transfers to and from the airport/train station, as well as booking taxis to get you to and from your dinner reservations or anywhere else you like.

Delicious Wood Fired Pizzas take on average just 90 seconds to cook! Our partner chef will turn up to your Beach House (in rain or shine!) and set up the mobile wood fired pizza oven and gazebos. After around an hour, it’s ready to go and pizza all round.
This is a real fun and interactive food experience that can involve the whole family. You can prepare the dough, decorate it with you personal pizza topping and then cook it as well. The wood fired oven is very portable and can be placed in most locations.
