From days out by the coast to fun-filled activities and dog-friendly restaurants, our local recommendations will ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy this February half term.
Looe hosts its Rock Pool Ramble | Thursday 21st February
Organised by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, join a team of local experts for an afternoon exploring Looe’s beautiful and diverse rock pools. The perfect opportunity to embrace the fresh sea air and get involved with the Cornish community, Looe’s February Half Term Rock Pool Ramble promises free, educational fun for the whole family.
On Thursday 21st February from 12-2pm, head to the beach below Looe’s coastguard station at Hannafore, look out for the sail flags and learn how to find and identify Cornwall’s spectacular sea creatures lurking under the water.
Caerhays gets ready for spring | Monday 18th February
Set on the southern Cornish coastline and with exquisite views out to sea, the magnificent Caerhays Estate stretches over 140 acres. Just in time for the half term holiday, Caerhays will reopen ready for spring on Monday 18th February, promising a lovely day out for all the family.
Explore the estate’s picturesque setting with a visit to the private beach and surrounding coastal paths, discover the 200-year-old castle or take a stroll around the gardens. Round off the day by popping into the aptly named Magnolia Tea Rooms – where dogs are allowed in the courtyard – to tuck into a Cornish cream tea or a slice of freshly baked cake.
Sitting pretty on the edge of Gorran Haven Beach just four miles away, Beachcombers cottage is the ideal coastal base for exploring Cornwall this February half term – it’s dog friendly too.
Trelissick begins the Signs of Spring trail | Saturday 16th – Sunday 24th February
A fitting way to welcome the beginning of a new season, take a walk around the tranquil Trelissick Gardens and spot the signs of spring on the National Trust half term children’s walk.
A free event running from 16th – 24th February, enjoy a stroll around the garden and note what you see on your trail sheet, looking out for mini-beasts and wildflowers as you explore the beauty of Trelissick. Available to enjoy from 10:30am-5pm every day, it’s a great way to get the family embracing the great outdoors, with Crofter’s Café located just around the corner for after walk refreshments.
The Eden Project travels the world | Saturday 16th – Sunday 24th February
Sure to be a popular day out with the little ones, The Eden Project’s immersive Passport to the World event will transport children’s imaginations to all four corners of the globe this February.
With a collection of all-new and exotic challenges, the event takes place from Saturday 16th – Sunday 24th and features an Arctic winterscape, a wobbly rainforest bridge, carnival-inspired flamenco workshops and jungle survival skills sessions. Accompanied by music, crafts and storytelling, pick up your passport and collect stamps as you journey across five continents, in a day out in Cornwall.
Lusty Glaze invites four-legged friends to lunch | Every Wednesday from midday
This February, bring the whole family and the dog along to Woof Wednesdays at Lusty Glaze – a popular beach restaurant nestled in a secluded cove on Cornwall’s north coast. Welcoming well behaved dogs all year round, the restaurant is famed for this weekly event where dogs can enjoy a seaside supper of their own. What’s more, the £3 cost for each canine dinner is donated to local charity, the St Francis Home for Animals. Catering for all tastes and ages, Lusty Glaze also has a varied menu for humans to sample, and plenty of children’s options for smaller appetites.
